THE DESIRE TO DIGNIFY THE GAITA

From the beginning, the Obradoiro de Gaitas Seivane, through their various activities, manufacturing, presentation, divulgence, commercialisation, study and investigation, always had a desire to dignify the gaita, the Galician symbol musical instrument, and elevate it to the highest levels of music and recognition, something which is now acknowledged internationally.

As many other people and groups did, sometimes against the tide and without the necessary means, the Obradoiro worked to conserve and enhance traditional Galician music as an intangible asset and add this inherited cultural treasure, which has to be looked after, loved and passed on. Proud of its culture and with the aim of exalting the gaita and giving it value, forming a national identity and growing culture.

With the aim of ensuring bagpipers spent most of their time playing and reducing the time spent on instrument maintenance, the gaita is subjected to exhaustive controls adhering to strict quality standards, to offer bagpipers a guarantee of reliability which was previously unthinkable for the gaita. For this reason, the Obradoiro has deliberately limited its output.

Respecting traditional craftsmanship, the instrument is immersed in the creative process and the Obradoiro puts the newest technology, new manufacturing techniques and precision machinery at the service of the craftsman.

With the desire to keep expanding the world of the gaita, evolving and dignifying it, the Obradoiro has opted to continue its presence and contribute with its investigation and discoveries, inspiring future generations, as a model in manufacturing and dedication to work.
